Orleans Parish School Board Introduces Rule Change to Modify Racist School Names, Landry-Walker Drops 'Walker'

Orleans Parish School Board President Ethan Ashley has introduced a sweeping rule change that would give the board authority to rename schools whose current namesakes “did not respect equal opportunity for all.”

The proposal calls for changing a policy dating to 2015, which prohibits the board from renaming charter schools.

Ashley’s proposal occurred July 28, amid a push to rename public property in a city reckoning with a history of honoring Confederate figures and other white supremacists.
